I am replacing my 6 year old (windows-7) and I would like clean out the hard drive. Any suggestions for a good "eraser" program? Thank you. Pahapoika.

As in you plan to give it away, sell it, or throw it out? If so use something like DBAN: http://www.dban.org/
It can securely erase the entire drive for you.

If you plan to keep it and use it then nothing beyond a simple format during the Windows installation is needed.

+1 the dban. Just formatting will not erase the drive.

You can use Disk Cleanup, Windows includes this built-in tool, but dban can cleans junk files from a variety of third-party programs and also cleans up Windows files that Disk Cleanup won’t touch. Both of them are useful.

I think you are confusing DBAN with CCleaner or something else. DBAN erase the entire drive, it is not a cleanup tool like Windows Disk Cleanup.
