So i have a Sony Vaio laptop, windows 7 that has been ok-ish for 2+ years.
the when i was watching a movie the cursor started to very slightly move just so the play-stop buttons came up. then after about 20 minutes the movement became more and more erratic and clicking on almost everything.
the touch-pad became unresponsive but at first was moving in the opposite way to my finger movements and then completely unresponsive. (normal mouse still works but is barley usable)
I've updated drivers, but cant turn off the track pad as there is no driver for it that i can find, and i have uninstalled Vaio care.
I don't know your level of experience, but if you want you could look on YouTube for a guide on how to disassemble you specific machine. I do not think that there would be any kind of error from doing this, but I cant say that I have ever had the need to try this myself.
Its not my first choice but the laptop is unusable in its current state (being slow as it is and then trying to open every program it happens to wander across)
the laptop has been apart before and put back fine, should be to hard to find the touch-pad wires, that's if there not soldered onto the motherboard that is :/
In my experience the keyboard and touchpad are usually attached th the bord with ribbon cables the smaller one should be the touchpad. Again I am not familiar your spicific machine.
Quite often laptops have a button or series of buttons that will toggle the track pad on/off. Normally hold down the Fn key and press the corresponding F key. For example HERE the correct F key if F1
In Control Panel > Mouse you should also have the option to select device or disable devices.
You can also just disconnect the track pad if you do not want it. You will need to remove the outer casing of your laptop and unplug the ribbon cable for the track pad.
You will receive no errors but will loose all functionality from your track pad and you will have to reconnect the ribbon cable to undo this at a later stage if you want it back.
