Greetings. i've finally found a problem I need help with. I use Explorer to manage files. Lately I have an error message when I try to delete files. I receive an error message "Error Deleting File or Folder: Cannot delete filename.ext: Cannot find specified path.

Strangely, I can delete from the Recycle Bin.

System: Homebuilt with AMD processor, 2 optical drives, 1 floppy drive, 2 HDs, 20GB each.
Operating System: Windows XP Home, SP2 is my default. I also have Win2000 Pro on the other drive. Incidentally, I do not have the problem with Win2K.

Software: Antivirus is TrendMicro PC-cillin. Has firewall and automatic updates. Runs daily and also checks all incoming e-mail.

Antispyware is Microsoft's AntiSpyware. Does automatic updates. Has not found anything of late because I rarely download stuff, especially freeware.

Have Office 2000, WinZip, Acrobat 3.0, some photo management software and other bland stuff.

    Any ideas?

    How full is the HD.

Might clear some room if you are running out of space. Also delete some temp files.

If having a problem with the deletion of a file on occasion, try using MoveOnBoot. If this is a constant problem, you may have another issue going on.

    As I said, two HDs.

The Win XP drive is - give or take - 60% full.

The Win2K drive is 50% full.

Both drives have been defragged recently and I've never had a drive error of any kind. The problem occurs with Win XP on either drive.

Not likely a drive problem because it only occurs when I boot with Win XP. Win2k works fine on both drives. In fact, that's how I am coping with the problem. I just drag all my discarded files and folders to a folder named "Trash", then when I'm using Win2k I delete everything in that folder.

MoveOnBoot does not sound like the solution. This is not an occasional problem - very persistent.

Tried taking ownership, but no success. There is only one user - me - and I have all administrative priviledges.

Keep in mind the system worked OK as is for a long time. Apparently something either corrupted a file or changed a default.

    Any more ideas?
