I have been using PE Design for about 1 1/2 years without any problems until a few days ago, when I recieved the following message while trying to save a design.
"Embedit has caused an error in MFC42. DLL, if you keep experiencing problems try restarting your computer." I did restart my computer several times to no avail. Even went so far as to uninstall PE Design and reinstall MS Win ME and then reinstalled PE Design. Everything works fine until I try to save. Then I get the same error message and the program closes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hiya and welcome

Which version of PE Design is it? Also, lets see what you have running behind the scenes, so to speak, whilst I search.

Go to Run and type MSINFO32
On the left choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs. Copy/paste the list here.

    Regards

I'm running PE Design 3.0 with the update "Patch 3.0".
"When I ran MSINFO I got the following message:
Mofcomp has caused an error in 4DHOOK32.DLL
    Mofcomp will now close
If you continue to experience problems try restarting your computer."
The information did come up after the previous message without restarting the computer, but something is not right for that message to come up.
I have not put any new programs on for a long time, so I'm not sure what happened.

    Okay, lets have a look:

*StateMgr: WinME. Windows default for System Restore. Do NOT disable!

Alogserv: From McAfee VirusScan for logging scanning activities. It is reported to cause jerky graphics response in many games. Not required

Data LifeGuard: Data LifeGuard diagnostic tools for Western Digital's series of hard drives. Not required

    eventmgr.exe: ???

Internet Answering Machine: From Callwave. It offers a free utility to monitor your incoming phonecalls if you only have a single telephone line for internet access

LoadPowerProfile: Power management specifics such as monitor shut-off, system standby, etc. Associated with power management and is listed twice. keep

LoadQM: Loads the MSN Explorer Query Manager - a waste of resources and bandwidth. Also installed by the latest version of MSN Messenger. Note that disabling this can sometimes prevent internet sharing working on Win2K Pro SP2

McAfeeVirusScanService: From McAfee VirusScan version 5.x. Runs VirusScan System Tray (Vsstat.exe), WebScanX (Webscanx.exe), VirusScan System Scan (Vshwin32.exe) and VirusScan Consol (Avconsol.exe) under one application. Scanning can be enabled via Start -> Programs if required

MSMSGS: MSN Messenger utility starts up automatically every time you start Windows. If you don't use MSN Messenger, this can be annoying. Available via Start -> Programs - not required. Need to delete a registy key relating to msmmsge.exe if you disable it

PCHealth: WinME. This is a "scheduler" and does not turn off PC Health

RealTray: System Tray icon for RealPlayer. Not required. If you subsequently start RealPlayer manually it adds itself back to the start-up list. You can stop this from happening by right-clicking on the tray icon and disabling SmartCenter via Preferences

    ScanRegistry: keep

SchedulingAgent: Microsoft Scheduling Agent displayed as a box with a stopwatch in the System Tray that is only needed if you have regular scheduled disk defragmenting, ScanDisk, etc. I'd recommend you run these at regular intervals manually as they can interrupt other programs

    SystemTray: keep

TaskMonitor: The Task Monitor the disk-access patterns of programs when they are started and stores this information in log files in the Applog folder. Task Monitor also records the number of times you use a program. The Disk Defragmenter tool uses this information to optimize your hard disk so that programs that you use frequently are loaded faster. Not required - but can be useful. Note: for Norton Anti-Virus 2002 users, loading TaskMonitor will typically solve many, if not most, of those annoying IE scripting errors (per Symantec's Knowledgebase)

WheelMouse: Mouse software for "Fellowes" Wheelman mouse. Has caused some users problems but shouldn't be needed if you don't use any enhanced features it may provide. For instance, I have a wheel-based mouse that works fine with default drivers

    WP_auto_upgrage: ????

Now, for the ones that you don't want, go to Run and type MSCONFIG. Startup tab, and uncheck the ones you don't want, apply and restart. If you're unsure, do each seperately, but apply and restart after each one.

Now, as for the next messages, do you have any 4D software installed? As in the databases.

I'll have alook at Brother now.

For Embedit, do you have EmbedIT anywhere on your system? Go to Find Files and Folders and type that word in.

    Regards

    eddie

I have disabled all the startup programs you suggested, but still have the same problem. The embedit.exe is there and I can use it to write to the card, so far, but cannot save or access some of the other functions in the Editing and Layout program. I renamed the MFC42.DLL and copied the file from the PE Design folder to the WIN ME/System folder and am still having the same problem. I could understand if I had installed new programs, but nothing is new and everything else seems to work just fine.
