Downloaded Windows latest media player to 13 mo old HP with Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1.26000. (Have no XP cd). Player worked well. Reboot error message: Windows could not start because of an error in the software. Load needed DLLs for kernel. Safe mode - same results. Boot results in grey screen with white blocks across bottom. Boot disk lets me use floppy drive and CD. Nothing I've tried gets me to a C prompt or into windows. I have (had?) 29 gigabytes of data to back up on the hard drive if I ever get in to it again. The 5 downloaded boot disks resulted in a wrong image error. Old dos games work in floppy. Have video & sound. Tried to set Bios to default; didn't help. Any ideas?
