Would greatly appreciate any help on the following:

I use the following fuction in a cell:
=IF(COUNTBLANK('C:\Documents and Settings\efthimis\My Documents\EFTHIMIS\BCM\CUSTOMERS\IND-112 ΕΛΒΕ\IND112-1\[IND112-1 ΠΟΡΕΙΑ ΕΡΓΟΥ & ΑΝΑΛΥΣΗ ΑΜΟΙΒΗΣ.xls]ΠΟΡΕΙΑ ΕΡΓΟΥ'!L2:L4)=0;"ü";"")

If the file in reference is not open, I get a an 'Error in Value' message. Can anyone please explain to me why the function works only when the file in reference is open?

Thanks in advance

Thanks slurpee55. I will check the macro option and I'll come back to you. But, can you in the meantime explain to me why the following formula (right in the next cell) is working perfectly?

=IF('C:\Documents and Settings\efthimis\My Documents\EFTHIMIS\BCM\CUSTOMERS\IND-113 DOPPLER\IND113-1\[IND113-1 ΠΟΡΕΙΑ ΕΡΓΟΥ & ΑΝΑΛΥΣΗ ΑΜΟΙΒΗΣ.xls]ΠΟΡΕΙΑ ΕΡΓΟΥ'!G5<>"";"ü";"")

I am guessing here that it is the difference between
=0 (an absolute test)
and
<>"" (since it can be null for a positive response, I would guess you are getting "ü" as the answer?)
It has to do with the type of logic employed in the test, I think, but I have never really looked into that....
