I just recently bought a Windows XP computer. It is very new, and has barely any programs.

I went to www.download.com and downloaded AOL instant messanger and some other stuff.

Point is... Today when I am trying to download programs from any sites, a window pops up saying.

Error with Internetexplorer.exe and then i press ok and another window pops up saying:

"The instruction at "0x1001d002" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program."

After clicking ok it shuts down the Internet Explorer browser.

Can someone please help me with this situation. "I scanned it for spyware, adware and viruses. It had 8 trojans which I deleted and hopefully cleaned out.

Any advise would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time, and sorry my message was soo long.

Im wondering what was among this other stuff you downloaded ....since you cant download, best thing to do would be a System Restore .....if you havent done one before read this page http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q306084 go back to a date in bold type that was before you downloaded ........

Well other stuff I downloaded would be "kazaa lite k++"

    I jacked Photoshop CS online.

I installed Macafee Anti Virus, Quicktime, AIM, Music Match Juke Box, and a program for my mp3 player, adobe acrobat reader, and Ad-ware 6.0. and some music for kazaa.

I have basically had this computer a week, and I heard system restores arent the best thing to do. Should I rather just reformat the whole computer and put the Xp restore disc in again?
I do not have much files to lose...

I cant imagine why anyone told you system restores are bad to do, Its so easy and effective, can only now imagine thats its either AOL messenger,or you have downloaded something from Kazaa that is causing the problems, the favourite would have to be Kazaa of course, trust you have run your anti-virus and ad-aware ?...Apart from anything else doing a system restore would clean out any baddies residing in your restore files .......would have asked for a hijackthis log but since you cant download thats out ......

(p.s: I will go ahead and do a system restore after your next message, as I don't want to jump the gun. I heard any lingering viruses will stay on the comp and may transfer to the new system restore. I had used Macafee Store bought anti-virus software which said I had no viruses, then i scanned with the Free virus scan by trendmicro and it found 8 Trojans. Haha that shows you can't trust any ONE virus software.)

Thanx a lot for your help. You have lots of patience with me. Much appreciation. :)

Ok thanx a lot. I went ahead and downloaded the Updated Hijack this. I did an ad-ware scan first to clean out the unnecessary files. I then went ahead and disabled "System Restore", then scanned and deleted all the files you told me too. Went into safemode and successfully deleted the webrebates and Syncroad files.

Here is the new HijackThis log, after cleaning everything:
