error message: Your version of MS DOS is incompatable with your version of Windows

    wow, this one has everyone stumped. My machine running Win98 SE will freeze momentarily for about 3 seconds. It will then resume for a variable amount of time before it freezes again. The mouse will move to the correct position if moved during the freeze. Same goes for typing, however, a few letters might get lost. Also, the desktop sometimes does not respond, much like clicking on a backround. Then, if my machine feels like it, an error message will come up on a black, DOS screen that says "Your version of MS DOS is incompatable with your version of Windows" or something to that effect. Wow that was a mouthful. Thanks a lot

    You'll need to write down then state the exact error message word-for-word, no paraphrasing, so the forum can better able assist you.

    You need to run a updated virus scan to rule HDD infection out. You can do that on-line at http://housecall.trendmicro.com

    A firewall like free Sygate is mandatory if you're not already running one.
