I'm really hoping that one of you nice and knowledgeable people will be able to help. I am having a complete mare and have been trying to fix my computer for ages now. I've also posted this in hardware - but think it should prob be here.

Basically I had a load of system faliures in a row -- kept getting the blue screen and messages advising me that windows was recovering froma serious error.

Then one day it crashed all together and I had to run the OS repair with the discs that came with the computer. All appeared ok, but I was still a bit unstable and crashed a lot. Then one day it just wouldn't boot up at all so I ran the repair again.

When I came back on I just couldn't get wireless to work and my disc drive had disappeared so I couldn't even run the applications disc!! After fiddling around for about 2 days I got the disc back - still don't know how but spent a lot of time in device manager and eventually it worked!! My last virus scan (avast) said that I had a trojan horse. I deleted this.

But no matter what I just can't get my wireless to work.

In my network places it says:
"Wireless Network Connection. Connected Firewalled, Broadcom 54g MaxPerformance 802"

I have an apple airport express whic I reinstalled the software for and I am running the latest firmware so I don't think it is that - also my neighbour (who has my password etc) can still connect to my internet.

When I refresh the lists of networks in range the airport comes up and it shows in the taskbar that I am connected. But can't get on line! Also, with an airport you can stream music from itunes and i can't do that anymore either.

my computer is a HP pavillion notebook zv5383ea. When I ran the HP system check it says that I need to update the following- that I don't think are related:

Application: InterVideo WinDVD Player -Version: 4.0.11.309Ap1 - whenever I try to install this I am told CRC error: the file c:\program files\common\bin\GPIP489b.rra doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab. file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted. contact your software vendor. and

Driver: AMD Processor Update for WinXP -Version: 1.3.2.0Ep3 - whenever i try to install this I am told that the version of cpu driver currenly installed must be uninstalled before the new version can be loaded. Can find no trace in my add / remove programmes list!!!

I am also told, (and suspect this might be crux of prob - but just don't know that my " HP PCI Information" device has a problem and that "This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed.

Make sure the device is connected to your computer correctly. For example, make sure all cables are correctly installed, or that the adapter cards are properly seated in their slots.

If that does not help, try updating the driver for that device from the Device Manager or try to re-detect the hardware.". I have done all of this to noavail. I don't even know what PCI does!! I have just uninstalled it - but now it doesn't appear in device manager list and it isn't showing as connected hardware. I am going to do a system recovery in a moment to make it reappear in the list (still withits pproblem no doubt!!).

Does anyone have any ideas as towhat I can try Am desperate not to have to do complete reinstall as moved house recently and have no idea which box to find the cd's for printer/ broadband/ipod / word etc etc!!

I don't know if it will help, but did a hijack log and set out below.

Am desperate to get this sorted as boyf is overseas at the mo and we talk on skype. We've been having probs recently and me being relegated to sitting on the floor behind the sofa (as far as cable will reach) to talk to him isn't helping matters!! Sorry this is such a long post

Old Rich

Someone will come along to comment on the HJT log, but I suspect drive issues . . have you checked the drive recently? . . In My Computer . . Right click on the drive and select Properties . . Click on the Tools tab, then Error Checking . . Put a check in both boxes.

When is asks to run at next boot say yes and turn off ( not restart ) then turn on and let it check the discs . . come back with what it does

blueeyedgirl77

thanks = will report back.....

Hi blueeyedgirl77,

There are a lot of nasties displayed in your HijackThis log.

Also, your Hijackthis should be stored in a permanent folder.

Flrman1

Hi blueeyedgirl77

Welcome to TSG!

I don't see anything in your HijackThis log that leads me to believe your problems are malware related so I'm leaving this thread here for now.

blueeyedgirl77

thanks so much everyone - so do i need to be doing anything with the hijack log?

My disc scan came up with some corrupt files in the 4th test which it appeared to fix but nothing else - but the test took forever - about an hour - is that normal?

What should I try now?

thanks so much

Jedi_Master

Howdy folks...

blueeyedgirl77...

Can you open a command prompt (start-run type in cmd, then hit enter), at the prompt type in ipconfig /all...

Right click in the box and select "select all" and past the contents back here...

blueeyedgirl77

Hmmm...

Interesting...

Is there any reason that you know of that IPv6 was installed?

also my neighbour (who has my password etc) can still connect to my internet.
I'm assuming that you are running WEP or WAP, try turning it off for the time being and use no passwords for the wireless...

Turn back on DHCP for the wireless connection, and give us another ipconfig...

blueeyedgirl77

Hi I dont know what ipv6 is.
I have disabled all of the passwords and tried to turn on dhcp but it doesn't appear to have worked.
It won't let me connect to the wireless network at all now......

Go to your Network Connections right click on the Wireless adapter (Broadcom 54g MaxPerformance 802.11g) - Properties, Double click on Internet Protocol TCP/IP, and select Obtain Ip Address Automatically, and Obtain DNS Server Automatically...

It won't let me connect to the wireless network at all now......
I belive it is because the Wireless card has the IP address of your router...

Hi blueeyedgirl77,

There are a lot of nasties displayed in your HijackThis log.

Also, your Hijackthis should be stored in a permanent folder.
I was a bit too quick in my answer. I apologize for my mistakes.

Don't worry about it , we all make them...

Honestly, you did the right thing, it's better to alert someone over your suspicions, than to jump in and possibly do more harm than good ( which I may have done here )...

thanks so much everyone - so do i need to be doing anything with the hijack log?
These do not need to run at startup:

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\jusched.exe
C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe
C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe
C:\Program Files\Skype\Plugin Manager\SkypePM.exe

These entries look strange . . unless you know what they are, you can disable them and see if anything changes:

C:\Documents and Settings\VJ\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\UV2ZU9QR\SP33499[1].exe
c:\swsetup\SP33499\Setup.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\VANESS~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\GLB1B2.tmp
C:\Documents and Settings\VJ\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\45G96RO5\SP27617[1].exe
c:\swsetup\SP27617\Setup.exe

These look like they are leftovers from a NOrton AntiVirus installation . . unless you intended to keep them, they can be deleted:

O23 - Service: Symantec IS Password Validation (ISPwdSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\isPwdSvc.exe

O23 - Service: Symantec Core LC - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe

My disc scan came up with some corrupt files in the 4th test which it appeared to fix but nothing else - but the test took forever - about an hour - is that normal?
Yes . . that is normal, however if you continue to have disc errors, the drive may be in early stages of failure. Run the error checking again in a few days.

What should I try now?
Your Java is out of date . . you can first unintsall the current one then go to the Java site and download the newest version

Run the spyware tools listed below to clean up the system.
