    This is my sad story:
    1) I was using a PC (XP home, SP1) on the Internet without virus protection (other PC's on network have anti-virus, this PC was initially not used on the Internet)
    2) I started to get ad pop-ups
    3) I purchased McAfee Internet Suite
    4) As I began to download it, a window appeared saying my PC's had errors that had to be repaired before I could download McAffee. I foolishly agreed to try and then purchase Error Safe
    6) I downloaded McAfee and then received a message that a program was trying to access the Internet.
    7) I told it to block access.
    8) A blue screen was then displayed. I kept getting errors when I tried to do most functions.
    9) I checked on Error Safe and got the bad news.
    10) I purchased Spyware Detector and Max Registry Cleaner.
    11) I used both as directed (I think).
    12) I continued to get errors so I uninstalled all programs I could including McAfee and Spyware Detector.
    13) Errors kept occurring and my wireless adaptor and an external hard drive would no longer function. In addition the CD-drive was acting oddly, claiming it still contained a CD after the CD was removed.
    14) I downloaded the most recent wireless adaptor driver (on another PC) and installed it but that didn't help.
    15) I eventually removed the wireless adaptor and I only rarely get errors now, but the external hard drive automatic backup function (Maxtor) will not work.
    16) I ordered McAfee on a cd-drive about a month ago, but it still hasn't arrived.

    HELP !!

Hello and wecome to TSG. My name is DFW and I will be assisting you with your malware issues .

Please be patient as I need some time to review your Hijackthis log once you have posted it, and i will post back recommendations for repairs.
As I am still on training, everything that I post to you, must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long.
    • Whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer.
    • Continue to respond to this thread until I give you the All Clean! If you have any question or you're stuck in there please reply it to me. I will try my best to help you!

Please follow the instructions below to download, install, create a desktop shortcut and post your hijackthis log.

Go to Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
    Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch HijackThis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then save the log and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Paste the log in your next reply.
If you haven't already posted then register & start a new thread in the Malware Removal section
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
