Hi, whenever I start my computer I get this message

    Error Starting Program
A required .DLL file, PSAPI.DLL, was not found.

I click ok and continue on, why am I getting this message and how can I stop it from popping up? Thank you

you can properly reinstall the program associated with this file or you can go into the System Configuration Utility and stop the associated program from running at Windows Startup.

    ***

Click the Start button; Run; type 'msconfig', without the quotation marks, in the Run box and click OK; Then click the Startup tab; Uncheck anything you don't need running in the background.

Before I stop it from reappearing, do you know what this file is for, do I need it?

D\L the dll and put it in your C:\windows\system sub directory.
reboot and let us know if that solves the problem

Can I please have more detailed instructions on how to download this. I'm following the instructions and I don't see anything happening.

Have you D\L ed the dll? If not get it here . save it to wherever you D\L files to. you will need winzip to open it.
Click on the file and it will open in winzip. there should be the dll and a txt file, thats why it's zipped, drag the file to your desk top. Right click on it and choose copy. Open c:\windows and scroll down to the system folder. right click on it and choose paste.
reboot and post back to tell us if that resolved the problem or if you have more questions.

forget the readme file. drag the bottom right corner of the winzip window up twords the center of your desktop then drag the dll file on to your desktop and do as i stated in my last post.

I think the problem is that when I click on yes to run the dll installer, nothing happens. There's a psapi icon on my desktop when I click on it winzip opens I select unzip or install from psapizip then next display file icons after unzipping unzip now then it says unzip wizard has opened an explorer window showing the unzipped files and in that window the only thing showing is Readme

you don't install dll's. you put them in the directory or sub directory where they are suppose to reside and thats it.
If the dll is on your desktop copy and paste it to window\system

I did above, didn't help. So from startup menu I disabled C:\windows\iedll.exe and that seems to have corrected the problem. Thank you for your help and most all your patience.
