ERROR -- The TCP/IP network transport is not installed

I am receiving "The TCP/IP network transport is not installed" error when I boot the computer and I do not have connectivity to the internet or to other computers and devises on the network (I am connected to the router). The problem began while I was downloading a HP printer driver. During the download I got a "flash" blue screen and the system rebooted. I manually turned it off and ran the Norton Security on start up. I looked at the log and Norton had identified and "Quarantined" (ups_document.exe (trojan.Gen.2)).
When the computer rebooted, I was getting 2 errors. The one above, and a "Panasonic trap monitor error". I found that this error could be resolved by using the Add/Remove to remove an old panasonic printer program.

Thank you in advance for any assistance!

I have included the information from the various logs below:

Hi,

Is network connection accessible now? If so, re-run ComboFix and let it install recovery console. Post back the result log.

Hello-
Still receiving "The TCP/IP network transport not installed" on start up and "Limited or no connectivity" and no connection to the internet or to other network devices. I also tried to connect directly with a cable (was using wireless) with the same results. Can I download the recovery console on another computer and install from a CD?
Thanks!

#9 ·
Hi,

Yes, it's ok to download with other system.

Download recovery console installer here and transfer to the affected system. Drag 'n' drop the file to ComboFix. Post back the result log.

I am not sure what you mean when you say "Drag 'n' drop the file to ComboFix" I dropped it on the affected system and ran it. In that process it is looking for a "Floppy drive" (I have only CD/DVD). Any key stroke aborts the install.
Wondering where you are suggesting that I DnD the file to.
Thanks-

Hi,

Put the downloaded file to the desktop together with ComboFix. Then just drag the file over to ComboFix icon and wait for the log.

Hi,

In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category
View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise
double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default
connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left
click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dials that says Obtain an IP address automatically and
Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.

#17 ·
Thank you for your continued assistance!
I followed your instructions and found that the "obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS servers automatically" radio buttons were both already selected. I disabled and re-enabled, rebooted and still have the TCP/IP error and no connectivity.

Hi,

Download this to your desktop. Run it and click Fix. See how it goes after a reboot.

Hi,

Re-install TCP/IP. Instructions:

Windows XP (Repair TCP/IP):
1. Click on Start
2. Click on Run
3. In the text box, type "cmd" (without the quotes), and click on the OK button
4. A new black window will open. Type: "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" (without the quotes), and press the ENTER key.
5. Type "exit" and press the ENTER key.
6. Restart your computer

Once you restart the computer if you encounter the “TCP/IP network transport not installed”
error message :

To rebuild the Winsock LSP chain on a Windows XP SP2 computer, follow these steps:

1. Log on to the Microsoft Windows XP workstation as an administrator.

2. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

3. At the command prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:

netsh Winsock reset

When the program is finished, you will receive the following message:

Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the machine in order to complete the reset.

Any help of these steps?

You didn't include quotes (") like instructed, did you? Make sure there's nothing in front of netsh.

Hi,

There was no asterisk in my instructions there. Nothing but netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt.
