Recently I upgraded Adobe Acroabat v4 to v5. During the installation, the existing postscript driver seemed to be removed or disabled. Acrobat v5 should automatically install the driver but didn't. When I try to create a PDF, I get the error message "cannot locate Acrobat distiller driver." So I've been trying to manually install a postscript driver as suggested by Adobe.

In trying to install the driver, I get the following error messages: "Failure in AddPrinterDriver" "System error 5. Unable to load string." and "Failure in AddPrinterDriver (Generic PostScript Printer) System error: 1797. The printer driver is unknown."

These two error messages are mentioned at W32_PrinterDriver (click AddPrinterDriver) -- but I can't find any more information on them. I've tried to install a few different postscript drivers, including the most recent one on the Adobe site but get the same error messages each time.

I am logged in with administrative privileges when trying to install the postscript driver. I'm using Windows XP Home. Is it possible that I've been locked out of some of the system folders and so can't add a driver? I would be grateful for any suggestions. Thank you.
