Hello,

I have an issue at work where a couple of computers running Windows XP, Visual Studio, SQL Server 2000 SP4 and a couple of other apps will start having issues after running for a bit. What happens is that, usually when a user has many applications open, the system does not operate smoothly. Open apps will fail to load menus, have long delays when trying to access some services, etc. At one point, Outlook 2003 reported an error along the lines of unable to access memory or virtual memory (I can't remember the error exactly, as I did not see it first hand).

I have looked in task manager when a user is experiencing this issue, and it shows plenty of available memory (these systems have 2 GB total RAM), so I'm not sure where to look for this.

Does anybody have any idea of what could be causing this or of some performance counter I could monitor?

Thanks,

Hiya

Are you still having this problem? If so, lets see what's running 'behind the scenes':

Go to Start | Run, and type MSINFO32
On the left choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs.
Copy/paste the list here.

As there are a few computers involved, if you want to post each one, but seperated by a ----, that's fine ;)

Hi,
Thanks for the post! As requested, here are the contents of the "Startup Programs" category. I have done just one machine, as it is the primary one we are troubleshooting, and the list is quite long. In fact, too long to post here, so I'm including an attachment to this post with the list.

Thanks

That looks like the wrong list. This is mine from work.

If you make sure that you're in there as shown above, and it should copy/paste okay ;)

Hmmm,

That's definitely the list I posted...not sure why yours is so much shorter than the ones we have here. What OS are you running on that system?

Just checked with someone on XP, and that's what they're getting as well. I was using Win2000.

See if this works, as we're now on XP at work:

When you click on the actual folder Startup Programs, the list appears on the right. Then, click Edit | Select All. Then, Edit | Copy. Rightclick into your reply, and choose Paste, and it should work.
