errors when installing

    Whenever i install a game or software i get an error either saying "An I/O error has ouccurred while installing a file. This is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file." or i get an error saying "Setup failed to extrat file or somting similar then saying this is usally caused by low memory (low disk space for swapping file) or a corrupted cabinet file". I have tried formating my hard drive and used numerous harddrive and still get the problem. I also tried to change the ram/ide cable and still got the problem. Plz help

    My os is windows 2000 and xp i have a geforce 4 ti4200, intel d845gbv motherboard, 512 ddr 266 ram,

    Welcome to TSG! Did you format the hardrive? I did not understand your post in this regard. If not, then check for a virus/worm

    I reformated the hard drive a few times and used diffrent hard drives and still got the error. I also switched the ram and ide cables and still recieved the error.

    Have you tried a different CD Rom Drive? Sounds like the ROM is erroring when reading. Check the CD Rom's IDE ribbon also. Swap it out.
