Hi, this is in followup to a suggestion by Cookiegal @ http://forums.techguy.org/virus-oth...luggish-computer-hjt-error-7.html#post7986901

At the above site, Cookiegal tried to help on the software end, removing malware & such, but she said that I had what looks like hardware errors, possibly with the BIOS. Assistance here would be appreciated. Following are the errors within the Event Viewer...

Some of the errors are due to running XP on ancient and unsupported system. There may be a BIOS update that may help, but its a very old system.

Since you have an nVidia graphics card, go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any ATI drivers or software.

XP came on this computer; there's an official Windows 2000 Professional/XP sticker on its side.. Yes, there's an onboard video output as well as a special graphics card slot which is filled and has the monitor hooked to it.

In Add/Remove Programs, I couldn't find anything labelled ATI. Also in Device Manager, no ATI seems to be there either, just the NVIDIA card under video. Attached are screen captures of both...

How would I look into updating the BIOS?

Try using DriverSweeper to remove any ATI drivers: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

Whats the exact model of this computer? It might be listed on the first BIOS screen or a sticker on the case.
    Here's some examples: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-dr...&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/footer_drivers
ANy BIOS would have to come from HP/Compaq.

Windows 2000 and Windows XP are two different operating systems, do you have stickers for both?

When Vista came out a lot of manufacturer's sold system's unsuitable to run Vista but they just wanted to clear out old stock, the same was true when XP came out.

Part of the answers of your questions I'll copy from the 4th page of the post referred above...

I'm getting ATI HotKey Poller entries in my event viewer log, yet my computer specifications shows NVIDIA Riva TNT2 graphics. My computer a Compaq brand. There's a silver sticker and a colorful Windows sticker on its side. The silver sticker has ENL/P1.0/20E/6/256cvn US. Then there's a Serial Number beginning with X123DY...
On the front on the computer, printed is "Deskpro EN". This is what I have...

it's the Slim Desktop version. It has a Windows sticker on the side for "Windows 2000 Prefessional 1-2 CPU"

The computer was a discard from where I used to work at. It came with XP. I thought 2000 Professional & XP were the same thing.

Something's funny with that DriverSweeper link you provided. First the Download here goes to here...
    http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-(Setup)_d1655.html
Then a download button goes to a DriverFinder site...
    http://driverfinderpro.com/lp/mfg/support-drivers.php?id=ATI radeon
and I'm not going any further because I don't see anything for "DriverSweeper" at this new website.

After running the BIOS update sp22203.exe, nothing really happened, or appeared to happen. Do I need to reboot? What about DriverSweeper, if there an updated link to that?

You're clicking on an Ad rather than the real download link, but there doesn't appear to be any links showing for it either. Download it from here: http://majorgeeks.com/Driver_Sweeper_d6171.html

The BIOS download extracts the files to a folder on the C:\ drive, it should tell you when you run it but look for a folder called SWSetup or Compaq on the C: drive

Ok, got DriverSweeper now. But in its installation, it's asking me if I want to install "PC Power Speed, Recommended by Driver Sweeper" (see attachment). Instead, I hit Cancel. Should I install the PC Power Speed, or un-click the box when it asks?
