Hi, My name is Christopher Nam.
I have been using Comcast net for a while now, I think about 2-3 years. At first we paid for the wireless ver. Giving us a wireless router allowing 3 comps to access roaming and 1 via ethernet. But we started having problems where internet would just suddenly cut off or not work, sometimes it would sometimes it wouldn't randomly and the only one that really worked was via ethernet. Comcast kept saying it was our labtops not func. correctly or w/e which is total b.s. because they hook up fine wireless at cafe's, library, etc. So we got fed up and brought a tech over to check it out which he said it was fine, but i think he was just trying to get out fast. He recommended we switch to a reg. modem and buy a wireless router. So we did. Now we have a reg modem (comcast) its a motorola brand. And i bought a wireless router. Netgear wireless N-router. From there we should not of had problems of any sort. (plz dont give me crap about "well your always going to run into some kind of problem, yeah i know") Sry, but on-call techs are incredibly annoying, those of you who have had your share know what i mean. Telling you things like their reading it off some paper.
Anyways, point is Im using a reg. modem from comcast with a wireless N-router Netgear and all machines from comp to router to modem are all saying connected, working correctly, connection established, etc. But no internet. It would be really random, like 30% of time internet works fine,30% works but slowed speed, 30%internet randomly shuts off for 5sec-1min then works then doesn't, 10%just no working period, did the whole reset thing, unplug n wait etcetc, nothing. Next day it works.
No idea what the problem is, any1 point me in direction of cause?
All comps are labtops, 1 comp (mac) via ethernet. 4 hp via wireless. No one doing anything heavy duty, just browsing, streaming youtube, or one person occasional WoWing. (plz dont give me crap bout WoW being cause, yes I know it consumes massive net. but it works fine with all other comps on net.)
*asking because I don't want to call comcast, then have to call netgear, comcast, netgear (get what I mean?)
*wireless router is N-Router Netgear WNR2000 model
