How can I create a macro that will popup an alert when the spreadsheet is opened based on due dates?

What I would like to happen is if there are 3 due dates that have come due, then the message box will display all three items and dates.

If anyone knows a better way to do an alert please share.

I would also like to know how to do conditional formatting based on due dates. If the due date is a good bit away then the color would be green, it if the due date is coming soon (next 1-2 days) then it would be amber/yellow, or if the due date is due then it will be red.

Thank you in advance.

Conditional formatting is not a problem, just select the range where date dates are in and add criteria
2007 and later allows for a large amount of different criteria.
About the message and alerts, I don't know; what do you want to do with each? What information do you need in the alert. What needs to be done with the information? Run a macro? Take it for granted?

With the message alert I would like for a list of all items that are due that day to display in the message box alert.

Example:

Take Pills 8/25/2014
Eat Breakfast 8/25/2014

Something like that.

A messagebox just gives info, is tha sufficien?
If there are too many, because the user was on vacation, they won't all display, maybe a listbox in a userform?
Could you post a file wth some dummy data to give it a run?

I have decided to just go with the conditional formatting, but cannot get it to work properly.

I created a simple spreadsheet where I placed random dates.

7/5/2014
7/25/2014
8/5/2014
8/24/2014
8/27/2014
8/28/2014
9/14/2014
9/25/2014
9/28/2014
10/25/2014

I would like the dates that are past 30 days (7/5/2014, 7/25/2014) to be marked as read. The dates 8/27/2014 - 9/27/2014 should be in amber. The dates 9/28/2014, 10/25/2014 should be in green.

This is with the design that today's date is 8/27/2014.

Does this make more sense?
