I work in a department that supports the accounting area. We have a tool that uses Excel as a front end for uploading accounting entries to our accounting system.
Some of our accounts contain the letter "E". When we try to upload them, Excel translates some of them as exponents but not others.
For example:
Accounts in the format 00339E are not translated. I assume the trailing "E" identifies them as text.
Accounts 00E001 through 00E308 are translated to 0.00E+00
Accounts 00E309 and greater are not translated.
Formatting the cells to Text resolves the problem but I am curious as to why the translation stops.
Any ideas?
