I can't find how to change the date in my spread sheet to the following format 00/00/1999. It did work and now it is displaying what I think is the Juilian date. It is showing the correct format in the "edit" box, but in the spreadsheet and when I print it, it is just a number. (36983)
Right-click the cell in question, select Format Cells. On the Number tab, select Date, and in the right window, select the format you want. If the exact format you want is not listed, then go down further below Date to Custom. Input dd/mm/yyyy in the Type box and select OK. Now when you type in dates like 15 May 01, it will display as 15/05/2001. Of course, you can reverse them in any order, so it could display mm/dd/yyyy, or even yyyy/mm/dd.
RandyG - If I am reading teh question correctly, then the date is showing the correct format in the Formula bar but not in the worksheet itself.
This happens when the worksheet is set to show formulas (in this case the serial number the date is based on) and turing it off in the Tools, Options section should resolve the situation.
Nice, Mike. As I read the post, I figured Randy had that too.
By the way, what that serial number is, is the number of days since 1/1/1900. On a Mac computer, it'll be the number of days since 1/1/1904. That is why some OSs have the option to change that (date system) under the regional settings.
You can type in 6 p 5/15/2000 and hit enter. That'll make it 9 pm tonight. If the cell is formatted as a number, you'll see something like 36661.75 (the .75 is 3/4ths of the day).
