I have been keeping a daily record of certain data for many months. Normally when I type in the day, like 9/1, it appears in the cell at the top of the page as 9/1/2004 and in the "A" column as 1-Sep. On the Sept. 2nd, when I made the entry for that day, the entry at the top was normal (9/2/2004) but the entry in the "A" column was Sep-04. All the entries in both places, since then, have been normal. But going back and trying to change that Sept. 2nd entry is useless. It still insists on showing as Sep-04 in the "A" column. Any ideas?

Select the 1-sep cell, click on the paint brush in the tool bar, click where 2-sep should be

So why don't you just copy and paste one of the cells with the correct format and then manually change the number representing the day?
