    Hey, guys

I have a laptop running windows xp sp2, with excel 2003.
when i run excel i am able to do anything i want within the program but click on a cell

once i click on a cell, any cell, when i try to move my mouse away from that cell it selects all the cells around it as if i am holding down the left mouse button, which im not. in order for me to exit excel after this point is to kill the process in taskmanager, as i am not able to click on any menu buttons after the problem begins, the cursor is stuck highlighting cells as if i was selecting them and cannot exit the main spreadsheet area.

    Things that it is not:

there are no keys that are being held down or are being pressed, including shift, alt, control, caps lock, scroll lock and every other key.

it is not that ext function invoked by pressing f8

it is not the add function invoked by shift + f8

its has nothing to do with the middle mouse button, moving or clicking the scroll wheel or any other mouse buttons does not resolve the issue.

    IT IS NOT GHOSTING!

Btw im a techie and know what im doing, i like to think of myself as the intellectual equivalent of Einstein.

    thanks the help in advance

This happens to me every once in a while. Rebooting the PC usually fixes it for me.

I had this same problem with three of my users and I have fixed the problem by going to control panel/mouse/pointer options tab and turning off enhanced pointer precision. It's only been a few days, but I have not heard back from the users that the problem returned.

Hope it works for you. (y)
