Happy New Year!

I do hope somebody can figure out my Explore Menu & File/Desktop Problems.
I recently upgraded my Win-ME OS to XP (Upgrade Version). Now, everytime I go to Explore and click on File in the File Menu or select folders / items to copy or move, the computer completely freezes. The same thing happens when I want to refresh my desktop (i.e., Arrange Icons).

Sometimes I do not have to reboot the PC to get out of Explore, as a Ctrl-Alt-Del, then End Task will usually take care of the problem. However, That is not the same picture you get with the Desktop problem

Any help, will be greatly appreciated.

HAPPY 2006!
Steve

Hiya

Are you still having this problem? If so, did you have all the minumum requirements for XP upgrade:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/upgrading/sysreqs.mspx

Although that's the Pro version, the Home version will be very similar. If you did, then just to rul out anything 'lurking' in the background, lets take a look at a log. go to http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Regards

eddie
