    Afternoon tech,

I have a problem which, from prior research, seems to be caused by numerous issues; far too many that don't exactly apply to my situation (or more precisely lack thereof; it seems to have started happening by itself.) So I hope in finding a solution here, even though I myself am not entirely certain of how it originated.

It started occurring mid-year, but not noticeable enough to detect it as a problem (the laptop is 4-5 years old, and it's expected some things to fall apart by that time), but the problem started to occur more frequently over time, to the point that now it happens every other time I start up the computer.

The general recommendation for this sort of problem was to check the registry in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
And nothing was out of the ordinary.

A check on Windows Update history was also recommended for 2 or 3 specific issues, but these were recommended for issues detected in 2007; far too long ago to determine my current problem as being triggered by the same Windows update (or am I underestimating the potential of Windows xp?)

Does anyone have any recommendations, or someone else who has experienced this issue before that could guide me on this issue?
