I am trying to help my mom fix her computer. When it boots up a message states "explorer.EXE unable to locate component." I xan press ctrl-alt-dlte and run programs through that.
I've been on other forums and it seems as though you need a Windows XP disk to fix this problem. Unfortunately, she can not find her Windows XP disk. Is there any other way/easier way to fix this? Also how does this problem happen? Thanks for everything!!!

enter safe mode hold down F8 key till the safemode screen is seen.

click on "last known good configuration" see if pc will boot to a normal window of xp.
