I finally downloaded the newest explorer- 6- and now when I initially go to surf the web my computer hangs. I wind having press cntr/alt/del but that always makes me restore my active desktop. This only happens when I first go to surf. Afterwards, I can jump on the internet without problems. This problem started showing up with the previous explorer-5- but has gotten much worse with ie6. I've been running norton av for almost a year with no problem. I also high a cable modem running for a year for optimum on line. What to do??!

    Thanks,

    Dan

    Welcome to TSG, Dan.

First, right click on your deskotp and select Active Desktop > View as Web Page and remove the check from that. This will simplify your problem somewhat. Active Desktop is a buggy feature that has no real value for most.

Next, go to the site below and get the "HijackThis" application. Unzip it and run it. You will see an option to "Scan" and save a log. Do that and copy/paste the log here.

    >> Then click config > misc tools > generate StartupList, and copy/paste the results of that to the same reply as well.

I would also recommend that you begin the process of downloading, installing and updating Spybot. Accept all the updates except PGP and Language tools. You can hold off on actually running it to remove things until you get some feedback on your startuplist.
