Hi,
I have done a system restore to my computer. It is supposed to be working correctly. But here are some problems:
- Everytime I turn on my computer, then clicked on any programs, there will be a busy signal, then nothing comes up. Then, freeze. I have to bring up CTRL - Alt- del which shows Explorer (not responding), so I End Task Explorer. Then I clicked on the program, it worked.
- The Explorer always running when I turned on my computer
- Control Panel/My Computer/My Document etc. I can't open those programs Busy signal, then nothing....
Help please. Thanks.
- Everytime there is some problem that isn't responding/freezing, I have to bring up CTRL-ALT-DEL to end task Explorer in order for the program to run again. When I ended Explorer, the ... screen(? not sure what is an appreciate name for that) will refresh. Then everything gets normal.
- SOMETIMES (just sometimes) "Start" won't bring up any menu :(

P.S. Is there any other way than using system restore again? Because I will have more terrible problems in other system restore point.... :( Such as rundll32.exe caused some problem in somewhere; cpanel wont show up icons, some problems are missing etc...
Thanks :)

EDITED to add details.....

Download Hijackthis.
Create a folder on your hard drive and save it there.
Unzip the file and extract it to the folder you have created.
Scan your machine, then click on Save Log.

Post a copy back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

OK I understand about it being on the desktop, but do not delete these backup files until we are sure things are working.

Run HJT again check:

Do you use AOL?

Run HJT again and check:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.searchgateway.net/search/%s

Close all applications and browser windows before you click "fix checked".

Reboot and please state what problems you are having.

It is me again =(
I thought it was working, but the next day, it isn't working anymore....
New details:
1)Now if my computer freezes, I bring up CTRL-ALT-DEL, most of the time, instead of Explorer (Not Respoind), it turned to be -current program name here- (not responding)
2)When I ended Explorer (Not Responding) or current program that is running but not responding, the desktop refreshed, then showed a Active Desktop Recovery. If I clicked on Restore My Active Desktop. My computer will freeze again.
Thanks. Any help are appreciated.

How old is your machine? Perhaps this is a hardware problem?? Maybe the H/D is going bad??

I don't know very much about ME other than it's updated w98. My best suggestion is to clean up your temp files, do a scandisk and defrag. There are some really good sites out there for how to maintain your machine, Microsoft being one of them.

On the subject of your hardware do you hear anything funny? Clicks from the hard drive, wabble in the fan or any other noise you think is not normal?

No, I didn't heard any fanny noise. =) Thanks anyway. I removed the IE last time (by accident....) I was trying to repair it, but..clicked on remove. Then I reinstalled it, and everything is fine now :)
Thanks for helping
