external cdrw

    i am trying to install an 2.0 usb external cdrw to a gateway running windows mill. instructions say its just plug and play but everytime i put a cd in the cdrw i just get 2 quick flashing lights and it tells me to insert cd into drive. what gives? also whoever responds, please note i am computer stupid

    do you have the driver that it needs for win me? if you bought it new, it should have come with a cd or a floppy with the drivers, but you may need to go to the manufacturers web site to get updated versions. find the site, then look for a support link, then you can probably do a search on the model number. post back if you have any trouble...

    WinME doesn't require a driver for USB 2.0 mass storage devices. However, the USB 2.0 board does require drivers, is that properly installed BEFORE you plug any devices into the USB 2.0 ports?

    i have no idea how to change drivers on my board. please help

    drivers are what your computer uses to communicate to a device. like a translator for two people who speak different languages.

    i don't know much about usb2.0 drivers, but i would contact the manufacturer of the usb board.

    When you bought the board, it came with a CD, and installation instructions. That's where I'd start...
