    The bigger one will handle the heat better, that's almost a universal rule, all other things being equal. FWIW, I have both 3.5" and 5.25" external drives, and the 5.25" cases run cooler, both have fans.

    I have a variety of USB and Firewire cases from 2.5" to 5.25". The ones I've had pretty good luck with are the BYTECC models from www.newegg.com
