I have an iomega external hard drive that I just accidentally dropped from its shelf. I caught it before it hit the desk but when I set it down again it developed ominous sounds. Fairly loud, like it's trying to get spinning again but is out of alignment. It's out of the 90-day warranty and this probably would not be covered anyway. I turned it off and am letting it rest while I think about it. Any suggestions?

Pray that you have any data on another disk. If the HDA has been damaged in a fall, you're VERY unlikely to recover any data.

JW falling without hitting anything? I don't think that should be dead.

Exactly.

Even "catching it" has a significant G force, it hit a pair of hands.

And if it was running at the time, that's "double bad"! :)
