I have an LG external hard drive which I accidentally unplugged one day without doing the safe eject. Disk Management says the drive is healthy but that the file system was RAW. I could not reformat it. So I deleted the volume and tried to reformat from scratch into NTFS as I had seen in one of your posts. It has now been 12 hours and only 41% has been formatted. This can't be right.
Vista SP2? The few times I tried formatting an external with Vista it was Pre SP1 and it was not a good experience; it was taking about 10x longer than XP, and I had so many other problems with Vista I quickly abandoned it, so I'm not sure.
If it completes I think I would still reformat on another rig just as a test or at least run some drive diagnostics to make sure its ok.
It's been more than a day. So I am taking the External Hard Drive Out and doing on a Windows 7 computer. But I am wondering if anyone else has had the same experience and whether there are other solutions?
ANYONE ANY IDEAS on how to format a RAW volume on an extyernal hard drive successfully?
