My computer is saying that my external drive needs formatted and formatting it will erase all the data. I have much data on it that I was saving on an external drive because I want it. Is there a way to retrieve the data before reformatting the external drive? I have a toshiba pentuim pentium (r) dual core T4200 with a windows vista home premium operating system and a accudata hard drive model number PDHD1000USB72.

I can be contacted at [email protected]

Try connecting it to another computer and retreiving the data.

I would suggest removing your email address. Posting it a forum like that is a sure fire way to get a ton of SPAM. Also all replies are required to be in the forums so that other will know what has been suggested and other people can possibly use the information to help with a similar problem they may have.

What would that do if the problem is with the drive - are you saying it could be with the computer?

That would confirm whether the problem is with your computer or with the External drive itself. Also if it is with the computer you can if needed copy the data you want to CD/DVD.
