I have a External Seagate 2 Tb hard drive that after a while, will disconnect and I can't wake it by trying to access the drive in Explorer. I tried rebooting my computer but it doesn't show up anymore. The only solution it seems is to disconnect the drive and plug it back in.

    Any advices?

    I am on Windows 10

What are you doing on the drive that you have to have it on call?

It has my entire collection of anime, movies and TV shows. And it's linked to Plex.

I know it probably be better to have an internal drive for that function, but money is short and so is Room. So I make due.

No that's understandable. Try googling the name of your device and downloading the driver online.

I found this and I quote; "Software to allow the user to change the sleep time, toggle the lights, and run drive diagnostics on a Windows computer."
So, yeah you were right. I'll try this at home as soon as I can.

There are drives for any thing and everything that connects to the computer, most of the USB devices install there own drivers automagicaly.

what do u want me to tell you about the WD Green Drive? - I can tell you Western Digital is a good company and I like them.

I saw somewhere what the Green Drive had some sort of firmware tweak that allowed you to modify the sleep time. Also, I tried to use the utility from Seagate and it didn't see the drive at all.

So, I am going to try a Scheduled task that writes a txt file every so often.

I know that, and I know that I made myself sound like a noob. I just thought that Hard drive didn't really need "driver" to work at all.

    Seagate Serial: 5YD1N7KF

That's about all that Speccy can tell me. I'd have to be home to look more closely at the drive.

    Hi @fantastik!

Yes, we had such tool called wdidle3 and you can find it here:

    http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=BlC8PX

Basically it is designed for WD drives and works on the listed models, or maybe it may work on similar models as well. You can try and test it if you want, but keep in mind that if the model doesn’t support the WDIDLE tool then most probably nothing would happen with the HDD (meaning its behavior won’t change in anyway).

Hope this helps and best of luck!
