I took the hard drive (a barracuda 7200.7 30 gig by seagate) out of my Dell PC when I got this Gateway laptop Windows XP for Christamas(wife). I was told that I could take the hard drive out put it in an external hard drive case. I did so, however, it recognizes it as Mass storage device/ then it says the new hardware is installed and ready to use/ then it says there was a problem during install and the hardware my not work. I have been through MS Support /Seagate/ support/ Gateway support. Please I have so much data on the drive it is extremely important. Any help would be incredible!!!!!!! Thanks

Have you tried it on another computer to see if it's the drive or your computer?

No I dont know how to do that , change the setting that is. I have tried it on another computer and I get the same messages. I am really starting to think the master switch is the problem.
