Hi, I have a external hard drive it connects with a USB cable, and when I plug it in I get a message saying the drive is not formatted and do I want to format it now. I have been using this drive for over a year. I have a lot of files on the drive I dont want to lose, so as yet I havent attempted to format it. Does anyone know if there is a way I can get my files off the drive without losing them? Is there a way to format the drive without losing what is already on the drive ?. I already tried the PC Inspector File Recovery, it did not recognize the hard drive. I also tried File Scavenger 3.0 demo version the same thing happened. However when I go to "My Computer" and click on the hard drive the same box opens up that asks if I want to format now? So upset, PLEASE HELP!

You could try opening the external h/d case and put the h/d inside your computer as a slave drive to get your info off of it.
