    Hi,

Can anyone help please? My Windows 10 updated the other day and since the update my EHD isn't showing up on my PC but I know it's there as it is showing in Device Manager and when I right click on it and go to "Properties" it tells me it's working properly, but I can't use it because it's not showing up in my Devices and Drives! I'm going round and round in circles here trying to sort it out.

I tried to update the driver but it said I had the latest one.

I uninstalled the EHD, waited a while then plugged it back in, restarted my PC and it's showing up
again in Device Manager but it's still not showing up in Devices and Drives. :-(

I don't know what else to do..it's there..but I can't' use it and the annoying thing is, many of my programs I use are on the EHD so I can't use them. :-( I use a very old graphics program which I can't get again so really need to get my EHD working.

    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to go into Device Management and change the drive letter? That works sometimes. You may want to run the hardware troubleshooter by typing Troubleshooting in the search box then following the prompts.

    Thanks for replying.

I tried using the Troubleshooter but it comes up with not being able to detect any problems.

In Device Manager my EHD doesn't have a drive letter assigned to it and I can't see how to assign one. See pic.

What you need is Device Management. Click on Search the type in Management. Then click on Computer Mangement. In the left column click Disk Mangement. If your External shows up there you can right click and choose Change Drive Letter & Paths.

Control Panel then Administrative Tools then Computer Management.

In the left pane under Storage, select Disk Management.

Look at the lower part of the middle window.
Disk 0 is your internal hard drive.
Scroll down until you can find what might be the external hard drive. (go by the size) Right click it and assign it a letter.

I've gone into Computer Management but there is nothing there which looks as if it could be my EHD. :-(

Go ahead and go back to device manager, and uninstall the hard drive. Then go to the top to the name of your computer, right click and click scan for hardware changes. When that finishes reboot your computer and see if it's there now.

Thank you so much. I tried it again and found the EHD and assigned it to a new letter. Phew! It's now working.

Thank you so much for your help. :)
