    Hi

I have a Maxtor Basics External Desktop Hard Drive (500GB)which I have been using for a few days on my PC and it works fine. Will it work on my laptop? I plugged it in but it doesn't seem to work, no found new hardware message etc. I'm using Vista on both machines...

    Yes, it should.

Did you repartition and reformat it before use?

I have found the solution now. Changed the drive letter in Disk Management and now it is showing in My Computer.

Thanks for your reply though :)

That's good. But if you did not repartition and reformat the drive when you got it, it would be a good idea to empty it and do so. People seem to lose access to their drives after files are loaded to them if they keep the original format from the manufacturer.

    Right-click Computer > Manage > Disk Management.
