    Hi,
I have tried and searched enough times, but nothing seems to be working, so I am creating this thread.

My computer wont recongnize my external hard drive.
I have windows xp. Its a Maxtor hd.

It used to work fine before and last week when I plugged in and tried opening it from "MY COMPUTER" it said "Could not open ..file corrupted" some error.

So I unplugged it using safe removal thing.

This weekend i Plugged it in and i ran the software EasyRECOVERYPRO
and left it on the whole night yesterday while the software was running/creating backup.

This morning, I tried logging on to my computer and found that it was frozen. Couldnt click anything or do anything.
So I directly turned off the computer and turned it back on.

now the drive doesnt even show up under "MY COMPUTER"

I have tried different computer, different usb ports, different usb cables, but no good.

Also I have tried looking under "DISK MANAGEMENT" and cannot find it.

I have data on this hard drive that I need and so cannot afford to reformat it.

    Please help.

    Thanks,

Different computer meaning, the hard drive does not work on different computer.
IT does not even show up under MY COMPUTER.
I can feel the hard drive spinning when i start it...
Also everytime I plugin the hard drive on any computer, the computer for a quick second or two shows the busy (working/sandglass) icon...
It seems like the computer tries to recognize the usb plugged in hard drive but then fails as it does not show up anywhere...

    Please help....

The next thing to try is remove the drive from the caddy and hook it up as slave in your pc.
If you can access the drive then you know the caddy is at fault and you just need to replace it
