The 2.5" would take up less space on my desk but I'd go with the 3.5" if it stays cooler & lasts longer.
Either way it's going to be 7200 RPM with USB 3.0 and eSata. Does it really matter?

Wonder how long until MS updates USB 2.0 to 3.0 like they did with 1.1 to 2.0?
I just googled it and passing that info on. They will never have update from 2.0 - 3.0. To begin with, the 3.0 connectors are blue.
We'll be able to to plug any USB male into the computer USB 3.0 port but not vice versa. There is no way you will be able to plug a 3.0 connector into your peripheal device.

USB is a hardware protocol and has nothing to do with Microsoft. Whatever USB 3.0 controller you have in your computer should have drivers for whatever version of Windows you're running.
