external harddrive not showing up on mycomputer

    hey guys so i have a quite new seagate 250GB harddrive just for movies and stuff. and the problem is that i plugged it into my computer via usb and that new hardware icon or message showed up and then i went to my computer but i had no harddrive there. yet if i go to device manager it is there. so i dont know whats the problem

    You probably just need to format it.

    Right click on "my computer" and then go to manage. Go down to Disk management.
    Find the disk on the lower half of the screen, it will be called something like "disk 1" I beileive, then right click on the white/gray space next to the disk name and select format.

    this is my computer witht the harddrive plugged in yet it doesnt show up

    and here is computer management with the harddrive plugged in and it does show up on the bottom (btw its the 232.88 GB one) [​IMG]

    Right click on the unallocated space ... format it and give it a name.

    i cant format it there isnt a option to do it meaning it is not grayed out its just not there

    No you have to highlight it in Disk management and then partition and format it there.
