Hello, I just purchased an HP P600 SSD external harddrive with 500GB storage. However, it came oddly partitioned as two 232GB drives and a DVD rom with security setup info. I would like to condense the two drives to one, and tried to delete one volume in disc management to extend the other. However, the option was grayed out and I could not create one larger drive. I then tried deleting both and creating one large simple volume, however, it restricted my max size to 232GB. I am now thinking of making a spanned volume but this is uncharted territory for me and I dont know if there are any downsides or dangers to that idea. Can anyone help explain this all to me? Any help would be appreciated.

I assume you're talking about the two different partitions. You should be able to delete the logical partition and then expand the GPT one. Or, if you desire you can delete both and create a new one using the Mini-tool.

It is recognizing my single drive as two physical disks, and not letting me expand one partition to encompass both though. Is this an issue with my drive?

If your external HDD is still new and you have not put anything in it and if you are not interested in what programs it has installed you can just reformat it. If your disc has a security program to log in, you will also lose this feature. It is up to you to decide on what to do.

it only lets you format an individual disc, my issue is that I bought a hard drive thats registering as two separate discs. I can post a picture to clear it up

First time I have seen this.
anyways, your SSD is not yet formatted. It still shows as unallocated.

I just read online reviews, which are shocking me saying HP falsely advertised this as a 500GB drive while its actually 2 smaller drives packaged together... I am going to return it I think.

I would suggest for you to return it and get another SSD which meets your needs.

Looks like your C:\ is NTFS?

I would try 'right click on 4, delete partition.
    Same on 3.
If it still shows 2 drives, I would then return it. False advertizing!
If it shows 1 drive, create partition - format - yadda yadda
