my brother recently got a mac and his old external hardrive wouldnt work with it so he gave it to me(its a lacie, designed by fa porsche, thats all the info i have on, i cant rember the size). So now i tried to hook it up to a dell deminsion 4600 desktop and its not seeming to pick up. it gets power and makes noises that let me know its running to some extent, however it dosent show up on my computer. i have tried two usb cords to see if that was the problem and it dosent seem to be.so does anyone know whats wrong? or is it just entirerly busted?:(

    Hi there,

If you knew the brand and model number, it would be much easier to answer your question with certainty, but from what you described, the hard drive appears to be bad. Before throwing it out, check the drive with a partitioning program such as Partition Magic, just to be sure that it wasn't just wiped by accident. If that does not work, I'd toss it, unfortunately.

    Hope this helps.
