recently I got a Western Digital external Hard Drive, and I proceed to plug it into my USB 2.0 port. The very second I plug it in, when it should start loading its drivers, it just completely locks up my PC. I'd restart, try again, and the same thing would happen.

    Any Ideas?

Well, it would help to know what O/S you use. In general, my RX for USB external drive problems is:

    Unplug ALL USB devices.
    Open Device Manager.
    View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

There is no installation, other than plugging the USB cable in, for ME/2K/XP for USB attached mass storage.
