So, I installed Windows 8 in a virtual environment on VMWare Player, and saved the virtual drive onto my external HDD, which had more storage than my internal drives. However, the external drive doesn't show up in the virtual machine, and I was wondering if it was because that's where the virtual machine is installed. If not, any tips on how to get it to be recognized would be fantastic.

VMware should have a setting for default .vdi (or whatever VMware uses) locations.

I use VirtualBox, so the settings may be different.

It is set to automatically read USB ports. It reads all of my flash drives fine, but not the external drive. That's where my theory came from.
