As your external drive is also failing to be detected correctly on another PC this is unlikely to be a problem with the PC. The external enclosure has some additonal circuitry which may have failed.

You would need to remove the hard drive from the enclosure and hook it up to the internal connections on a desktop PC or use a USB Hard Drive Adapter (about €10 from eBay) in order to test the drive. In many cases the drive will be fine and all you will need is a new enclosure. If on the other hand, when you have the drive hooked up, you still cannot read the drive correctly then it could have failed. Let us know what you find as there are diagnostics available to test the drive.
