When using Word 2007 (and beyond) I've often encountered a problem where there are large blank spaces (up to half a page or so) that won't be gotten rid of. When you highlight and delete the area nothing happens and when you put the cursor before the next section of text and hit backspace, it won't move either. Any ideas why this happens? Does it have to do with the page breaks?
Thanks!

This has happened to me in the past. Check your header and footer - in my case, somehow the header had expanded to take up half the page. Still don't know why, but it was easy to fix.

Are there any formatting symbols appearing in the area that might give you a clue as to what is occupying the space?

Unfortunately, I don't have the computer in front of me any more (I was helpign a library patron), but I don't recall there be any markings- though I wasn't in markup mode.

Attach a cleaned copy of one of these files, then we can have a look at it?

Make sure that you do not have any data that should not be made public in this attached file.

As I mentioned above, I don't have access to the document anymore- maybe that precludes our ability to solve this. I was kind of hoping someone would have a general idea for a solution from having personally experienced this problem.

As stated before header and footer, the before and after spacing of a paragraph, extra paragraph markers and "Cover Page" settings all may be at issue here.

What are "cover page" settings? I've never seen those.
Also, I should have mentioned the patron had done some cutting and pasting from other documents (on the internet I believe).
Thanks for the help!
