I know there have been other threads on this topic, however, I have read them and tried all of their solutions to no avail.

This problem started when I switched to Comcast service. Our setup is now a Comcast modem, hooked up to a netgear wireless router. I figure the problem has to be there somewhere.

I can access any other web page just fine. I can connect to fb momentarily at random times throughout the day, no more than 5 minutes, and this issue occurs on all of my computers. Here's the odd thing...when I cannot access the fb homepage I also cannot use fb to sign in to any other social apps like twitter, smugmug, etc. and the facebook widget on my website pulls up blank as well, showing a cannot connect error.

I've gone to the sites to check if the site was down for everyone, and was assured it was only me.

I've tried accessing it over https

I've checked for a firewall blockage and for a blocked/restricted sites entry

I've cleared the cache/cookies, flushed the DNS, restarted all the devices and routers.

I've edited the hosts file and tried deleting the hosts file.

I've set my MTU at 1400 and synchronized my clock.

That accounts for all the solutions I could find online. They have all failed for me.

For whatever reason this website seems to want to randomly refuse to connect. It's most vexing.
    Any help would be appreciated

I should mention that during times of connection trouble I am able to log in on my phone via 4G. So it's not my account.

Follow these commands to the T please :). In Command Prompt (Start > All Programs > Accessories) type:

    ipconfig/all
    ping facebook.com -n 10
    ping 173.252.110.27 -n 10
    nslookup facebook.com

Note that the 2nd and 3rd command may take up to a minute to complete.

Once all commands are completed, right click in command prompt screen, choose Select All, then press the Enter key. On this thread, do a Paste (CTRL+V) so I can see what you have.

That's what's weird...the pings get replies and the DNS is finding the right IP.

So the connectivity is there, something else is blocking it. Usually due to a security software. What security software do you have, and also had in the past?

Nothing there would be a cause for concern.

Can you also try this link please and let me know if it works: Facebook by IP

I just use MS Security Essentials.

The link you provided did not open a page for me.

Thanks for your help troubleshooting this, by the way, I really appreciate it.

Try the link again, i changed it.

If it doesn't work check the firmware for your router, i heard some firmwares has issues with FB. Can you access facebook if you connect directly to the modem?

Did you connect directly? If so, try changing your DNS settings to:

    Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
    Secondary DNS: 208.67.222.222

That seems to have worked, at least for now, and I'll keep en eye on it over the next couple of days to make sure it wasn't a fluke, because it does connect sometimes, randomly, on its own.

Why would changing DNS have made a difference? Do you think there's an issue with Comcast's standard DNS servers? If so, why isn't every Comcast user in my area having this problem?

I had a similar problem and ticked the

"Obtain DNS server address automatically " button in the TCP/IP protocol settings

    Thanks for the lead

It's possible but the thing is your DNS was your router. It may be your router. If you set back to automatic and connect directly to modem and see if it works, please let me know. Actually I may have another test...
