The hard drive failed on my computer last week it has now been replaced.
Is there any way the stored information can be recovered from the disc.
If not what should i do with it destroy the hard drive or are they repairable.

It is cheaper to replace a hard drive rather than repair it. You could try putting the drive in an external enclosure and try to pull the data from it. The price goes up over a grand after that.

Yes, you can recover the info. It depends on how much money you want to spend and how important the info is to you.

A simple data recovery using software usually starts @ $100 or so. If your drive has to be disassembled and the platers read, then it can run $500 and up.

This is why we stress backups SO much. With an image backup of your drive, it takes all of 30min or so to install a new drive and restore the image. Right back to where you were when you made the image.

    Hello-
If you have to use a recovery service or software more than likely the drive is damaged and not repairable (of course this isn't always true), so I would destroy it or use as a great paperweight.
