This has become a daily ritual...

At 8pm every night, my system shuts down. Sometimes I catch it and delay it 4 hours but other miss the warning.
It takes about 8-10 minutes to get back to where I was before the shutdown.

    "Shutting Down"
    "Starting Windows"
    "Failure configuring Windows updates"
    "Reverting Changes"
    "Don't shut off your computer"
    Shuts down and reboots
    "Starting Windows - please wait"
    Then it is back up.

When I shut it down for the night - about 10 minutes

"Please do not power or unplug your machine"
    "Installing updates 1 of 9, 2 of 9...

Power up in the morning - 4 to 5 minutes

    "Starting Windows"
    "Preparing to configure"
    "Failure configuring Windows Updates"
    "Reverting Changes"
"Do not shut down your computer"
    "Shutting down computer"
    "Starting Windows"
    "Please wait"
    "Preparing to configure Windows"
    "Configuring Windows"

Is there anything I can do to end this?

Try downloading and installing the updates manually. Go to Control Panel > Windows Update. click on view update history. Then note down the KB number of those that failed.

Then go to microsoft and search for those KB's and manually download them.

Sometimes, they will install just fine one by one.

I tried all of them. They all came back "This update is not applicable to your computer"
    KB 2847077
    KB2891804
    KB2913152
    KB2893294
    KB2904266
    KB2887069
    KB2893984
    KB2898785

Any way to make them stop trying to update them every day?

I got to the place where it said "In Windows Explorer view, search for the folder named "Software Distribution". I put "Software Distribution" in the search box and it started searching automatically. It came up with nothing.

There is no space between the word "Software" and "Distribution"

Once I took the space out, it worked beautifully! I can't believe I did that...

    Thanks for your help.

Do we have to do anything to end the thread?
