I have the xp home edition system disc pc begins to fetch files in blue screen after 9 seconds this message appears
setupdd.sys could not be loaded the error is code 4.
I'm trying to overweight or clear the old xp and go with fresh copy i can't figure why it's not taking off with the system disc.
Thank you
Are you confident enough to go inside and check your connections? maybe do a little cleaning as well (canned air). If your Hard Drive is the older IDE ribbon type connector, sometimes removing and re-attaching it at both ends will clean the connections enough to get it going again. Same with the memory as mentioned above. If you have more than one memory stick installed, you can also try running with just one in the first slot and then the other stick to isolate a bad one. Next would be to test your drive with the manufacturers boot utility if possible.
Also if I put the memory stick in (dim 1) it powers up when you plug it in power button not work monitor light blinks it only works in (dim 2) i'm starting to think might make a good trout line weight
Yes I cleaned everything checked all connections, another thing I've noticed the power light doesn't come on and the little hard drive light that flickers it's not working
setupdd.sys could not be loaded with a code 4 error indicates problem with RAM.
Moving it will not fix a bad RAM stick.
If you know anyone who has the same RAM, borrow a stick and see if XP will install.
